Political scientist on cooperation between Putin and Lukashenko: Russia will not give the territory of Belarus to the West.
Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly called Vladimir Putin his elder brother. They are used to making a similar connection between Russia and Belarus. As a rule, the older brother stands up for the younger one, even if he turned out to be wrong in a certain situation.
Journalist and political scientist Vitaly Tretyakov expressed the opinion that Moscow has taken a firm position on the Belarusian issue. Putin, through the ambassadors, conveyed to the European leaders the message that Russia would not give up the territory of Belarus to the West.
The Kremlin realizes that Russia’s national interests are closely linked with the fraternal republic, Tretyakov stressed. It’s also about security considerations.
In addition, the statements of Europe’s last dictator are extremely contradictory. Lukashenka has repeatedly said his readiness to carry out a democratic constitutional reform, but at the same time he has no plans to part with the presidency, the political scientist said in an interview with Ukraina.ru.
